Games Inbox: Is Resident Evil 4 the best game ever?

Resident Evil 4 – out now (photo: Capcom)

In a recent Letters Page, it was debated whether Sony was the best publisher of 2022, and a reader expressed a hope for Sonic Master System games to receive more recognition.

Today marks the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, and I am taking the day off to play it. To me, the original is the best game ever made. Although the remake has undergone significant changes, I haven’t heard anything truly negative about it that would deter me from playing it. The graphics, atmosphere, humour, and controls seem to be exceptional. I also think the anime parodies that Capcom has released are outstanding, better than any live-action movies or TV shows.

Based on what I have gathered, the additions and changes made to the game have enhanced it. I am really looking forward to playing it, and I hope it will be the best game of the year. Capcom is on a roll right now, and I applaud them for it.

Garbage in, garbage out. Metacritic’s charts for 2022 are interesting, but while the methodology seems to make sense in theory, in practice, the results are nonsensical. Sony had a weak year, with God of War Ragnarök being the only standout, and Horizon Forbidden West not far behind. But the other high-ranking companies fared even worse. I do not even know who Paradox and Activision Blizzard are, yet they came third on Metacritic’s charts. Even Metacritic noted that they did not have any superb games, only a slew of good ones. 2022 was not Nintendo’s best year, but it is absurd that the firm did not make it into the top 10, and was beaten out by a weird, unheard-of indie company.

I highly recommend Tchia, which I finished last night. It reminded me of the PlayStation 2 era, when games felt like they were made by passionate developers unrestrained by corporate honchos. Although it has some rough edges, it is still delightful from start to finish. The inclusion of the local New Caledonian dialect (plus French) and dedication to the country were definite pluses. It was quite refreshing to play something free of corporate gimmicks and set in a foreign country that lacked American accents.

I would like to address the issue mentioned in RE: Sonic Origins Plus Revelation. It appears that the games are referred to as Game Gear games rather than Master System games. This is because of the U.S. market, where the Master System seldom appeared. Sonic 1, according to my knowledge, was originally issued in Ancient’s unique format.

These games were undoubtedly superior on the Master System than on the Game Gear due to the screen’s small size. Therefore, I hope they give us that advantage, in addition to a proper widescreen presentation of Sonic and Co. in these reissues.

Finally, we now know that Amy, Tails, and Knuckles possess almost identical speeds. What distinguishes Sonic? Owen Pile (NongWen – PSN ID)

GC: They are indeed Game Gear games. The included versions are those, and most of the bundled games were never issued on the Master System. However, we did express regret in the article that the Master System versions were not included as well.

I experimented with the Luna application on my Firestick and was quite impressed. As an Amazon Prime member, I received four free games. Mega Man X and a game called The Wind Waker,
